Game music: Mass Effect 2

Mass Effect 2 OST CoverJust as the story, gameplay and overall tone evolves as the Mass Effect Trilogy progresses, so too does the music. Jack Wall reprises his role in Mass Effect 2, bringing us a soundtrack that – unlike the game – stands as a worthy successor to the first.



The standout track for me has to be Samara’s theme, evoking power, mystery and the legacy of an old, old race, but mixed in with no small amount of chaos and discord. Just like Samara herself. And of course it wouldn’t be Mass Effect without some shameless emotional manipulation and triumph: in this case The Normandy Reborn.1)“Spoiler, I guess? But even if the game weren’t years old I’m not going to put spoiler tags on a track listing.

Speaking of shameless emotional manipulation, the soundtrack includes a bonus disc which has the utterly shameless, goosebump-raising Heart of Courage used in the trailer:
